Flora Cordis Johnson

Johnson, Flora Cordis – passed away May 30, 2025 in QEII Health Science Centre, Halifax, after a short battle with heart disease.

Born in Kingsville, Texas, she was predeceased by her parents, William Johnson and Mavis (Court) Johnson and her husband, Timothy Skelly.

After graduating from university, she became a respected journalist, editor of a magazine, wrote articles in the American Medical Journal and did free-lance writing.

She resided in Chicago and later moved with her husband to Seattle. When her mother became critically ill, she came to Nova Scotia and returned to Seattle after her death. She then closed her business there and returned to Nova Scotia.

She became involved with the forestry industry and made many new friends. She joined the All Around the Circle group and led a group for seniors to just drop in to chat, play games, etc, joined Alzheimer Society, a health care group and served on many other committees.

She was a lover of animals and rescued and took care of many of them. She also supported many animal shelters.

She was a very kind and compassionate person and is missed very much.

A Celebration of her Life will be held at a later date. A notice will be sent out once arrangements are made.

Donations in Flora’s name to Bide Awhile Animal Shelter or Cobequid Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre would be greatly appreciated.
