Taylor, Rev. Douglas Dane – Age 89, Chaswood. On March 6th, 2016 Doug went home to be with his Lord who he served faithfully for many years. His death occurred in Arborstone Enhanced Care in Halifax. He was a son of the late Ira and Lauretta (Hawboldt) Taylor. Doug graduated from Gordon Divinity School with a Bachelor of Divinity, and his first pastoral service was in Yarmouth County and then in the Miramichi region of New Brunswick. Later, he became a missionary in Northern Ontario with Northern Canada Evangelical Mission, where he established the Cree Gospel Chapel in Moose Factory. He finished up his preaching career in Wittenburg. While busy with his ministry, he also had an electrical business and operated a portable sawmill as well. Following in his father’s footsteps, he was an accomplished pianist and piano tuner and could play just about any instrument he picked up.
Surviving are his wife Mary; son, Dave (Rosemary); daughters, Susan (Ron Cooper), Judy (Bob Parent); seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Jean Taylor. He was predeceased by his first wife and mother of his children, the late Anne Brittain; brother, Donald.
Visitation will be Thursday from 6-8 p.m., and funeral service will be Friday at 2 p.m., both in Wittenburg Baptist Church, Pastor Robert MacCormack officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Hillside Cemetery, Middle Musquodoboit. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Wittenburg Baptist Church or a charity of choice.
